Our Story: A Tale of Resilience and Innovation

In March 2020, as the world faced the depths of the pandemic, Damien, a seasoned head chef at a high end catering company, and Chad, the entrepreneurial spirit behind his own Bar & Staffing venture, found themselves at a turning point. Their former endeavours closed their doors, but destiny had a different plan. A single phone call sparked The Velvet Effect into existence on the 16th of June 2020. Since then, we’ve evolved from hosting intimate gatherings to catering for prestigious brands and iconic venues in Cape Town.

Chad Rinkwest

Chad Rinkwest is an accomplished event planner and coordinator with a passion for business, people, and events. With a strong entrepreneurial spirit, he started his first company at the age of 21 and has continued to thrive in the industry ever since.

Chad received his education at Varsity College, where he honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of the events industry. He is committed to creating unforgettable experiences for his clients and takes pride in his ability to bring their vision to life. Whether it’s a small, intimate gathering or a large-scale event, Chad has the expertise and dedication to ensure that every detail is taken care of.

Executive Chef

Damien Stemmet

Damien Stemmet is a chef and owner of a catering company. He has a passion for food that started at a young age, growing up around various styles of homemade cooking.

Damien studied at Silwood School of Cookery and later became the head chef of a catering company, where he learned the techniques and skills needed to run a successful business. He has been inspired by French cuisine and chefs like Nigella Feasts and Ina Garten, and loves to create delicious and elegant dishes that are both hearty and visually appealing. Damien is also the winner of the Taste Magazine Eat Out Bursary.

Head Chef

Kaashifa Isaacs

Kaashifa Isaacs is a Head Chef who was born and raised in the Cape Flats. She developed a love for cooking at the young age of 10, when she would cook with her mother, who served as her main teacher.

Kaashifa’s passion for cooking also stems from a desire to help people in her community, and she began working for a non-profit organization as a way to do so. She slowly worked her way up to become the head chef and hospitality facilitator at this organization, while also working part-time as a commie chef at a catering company. Kaashifa now works at The Velvet Effect where she has learned a variety of techniques and skills.
